More innovative than it seems!
Feb 24, 2016,23:01 PM
To me, there are two very interesting developments in this model—one obvious and the other perhaps a bit more subtle.
The obvious first innovation is having an automatic movement (rare enough in a Reverso) with a dual face feature. I would think that this would be difficult, not having the rotor interfere with the second face. So I think it's impressive.
The second, more subtle feature is the mixing of markers and numbers on the two different watch faces. Previous versions would either have less-formal numbers on both sides or more-formal markers on both sides. It increased visual cohesion between the two watch faces, which I think actually diminished the benefit of having a watch with two faces. The current version mixes it up. I think the front dial is the more common traditional Reverso look, which is fairly flexible, while the back side has a more formal-looking and stylish aesthetic with markers only. More so than past models, it is like getting two different watches--which I think is part of the charm of having a duo-face Reverso.
I really like these two features. Though I have to admit that some other style choices and decisions in the new Reverso line I'm not a fan of. In this watch, I would have kept the square design for the second-hand subdial--I think the circular subdial does fit in as well with the rest of the face.

Wow! Not much success around here...

Nobody is interested in this one? Nicolas, could you explain what is on the middle of the back dial? It does look like a not very sharp disc... Best, Etienne

There is one thing I don't know... The Automatic movement. Introducing the automatic movement ( which is not totally true, since we already had auto movements with, for example, the Reverso Gran Sport in the early 2000's ), is a good thing, as some strong...

Well, I'm not unbiased here--the only Reverso I own is the Gran'Sport Automatique. So I don't buy into the notion that a manual-winding movement is an inherent feature in a Reverso. (I'd be interested to know if the JLC caliber 966 is basically the same a...
